In Case You Missed It...
Yesterday was a wonderful time of worship together as we continued our series through the book of Ephesians. Pastor Al preached through Ephesians 4:7-12, which says:
"Now grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. For it says:
When he ascended on high,
He took the captives captive;
He gave gifts to people.
But what does "He ascended" mean except that he also descended to the lower parts of the earth? The one who descended is also the one ascended far above all the heavens, to fill all things.
And he gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, to build up the body of Christ."
When you received THE gift of the gospel, you also received A gift from the Holy Spirit in order to serve the church. Every believe has been gifted in a unique way. Pastor Al used the acronoym S.H.A.P.E. to help us see how God has wired us to serve others. Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences. God uses our "shape" to glorify Christ and build up His body.
If you've never thought of how you are "shaped" by God to serve others then start by asking these 2 simple questions: What do you like? What are you good at? Then maybe ask people close to you what they think.
Your gift is vitally important to the health of our church family. Don't envy someone else's gift, but realize that you need them in your life just like they need you! God's word uses the word "body" to describe the church because no one part is more important than the others. We all need one another to be what God has called us to be.
